ROCKFORD

A democrat running for the Illinois House joins local child care and home care workers to denounce vetoes by Governor Bruce Rauner (R-IL).

Tricia Sweeney says it’s important to highlight the work child care and health care workers do.  Rauner recently vetoed bills which would have provided training and health insurance and boosted their pay $15 per hour.  Sweeney says a majority of these workers are women whose work saves the state milions each year.

“People need to understand that we need to stand with these people,” said Sweeney.  “They’re out there every single day providing very needed services to a lot of people who desperately need the services, the most vulnerable, the children, our senior citizens, and those with disabilities.”

Rauner said in his veto message the bills contained no funding mechanism for the more than $1 billion in extra costs.  Sweeney is running against Rep. John Cabello who supported the veto.
