Outgoing state Rep. Stephanie Kifowit, D-Oswego, is planning to run for a seat on the Oswego Village Board next year.

Kifowit, who lost in the Democratic primary for Illinois comptroller in March, is not running for reelection. In talking about why she wants to run for Oswego Village Board, she noted the growth that the village has been seeing the last few years, including business growth.

“I really just want to bring my expertise and my longstanding government knowledge to help them during this time of growth and prosperity that they’re seeing and just really be a resource for the board and for the village as well,” she said.

Kifowit was first elected to the Illinois General Assembly in 2012. She represents the 84th District, which includes portions of Oswego, Aurora, Montgomery and Naperville across Kendall, DuPage, Kane and Will counties.

She has lived in Oswego for 14 years. Prior to being elected to the General Assembly, she was on the Aurora City Council for almost 10 years.

Kifowit is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.

“I just want to continue to serve,” Kifowit said. “I’ve been doing government now for 24 years and I want to bring that expertise to the board and work with the current members of the board that I know really well during this really transformative time in Oswego. It really is an exciting time for the village.”

As an Oswego Village Board trustee, Kifowit said she would make sure the board is managing growth in a smart way.

Oswego’s consolidated primary election, if needed, is Feb. 23. The consolidated election will take place April 6.
