MOLINE, Ill. (KWQC) – John Deere and the UAW are considering an unexpected, two-year extension to their current collective bargaining agreement, which is currently set to expire in October 2027.
The proposal comes amid declining agricultural equipment demand and economic uncertainty, and is designed to provide continuity and stability for employees, customers, and the business, according to a statement for the Moline-based agriculture giant.
In an message to its members, the union said the extension is unexpected.
The union said under the proposed terms, the contract would extend to Oct. 31, 2029. It preserves the current healthcare, pension, and cost-of-living adjustments, while adding a 4% wage increase in 2026 and 2027, plus a $3,000 bonus this November.
The union says details are being sent to members for open discussions. If the extension is not accepted, both sides will negotiate a new contract when the current agreement expires next year.
Both parties have set a deadline of 11:59 p.m. Aug. 31 to accept the proposal.
