A Naperville firefighter is expected to announce his candidacy for the Illinois General Assembly seat currently held by Republican State Rep. Keith Wheeler of Oswego.
James Leslie of Aurora has announced he’ll be making his official campaign announcement for the 50th District seat, later this month.
The election will be held in 2018.
He is the first Democrat to announce candidacy in the election.
State Rep. Keith Wheeler has held the 50th District seat since 2015 and is currently in his second term.
According to Leslie’s website, he is a 15-year veteran of the fire service and has lived in the city of Aurora most of his life.
On his campaign page, Leslie says his political interests include, “creating an environment that bends to common sense, not special interests, and has a balanced state budget that is responsible and fair.”
He additionally says he feels, “the Illinois taxpayer is subsidizing surrounding states allowing them to use Illinois money to balance their budgets and fund their projects to take Illinois jobs.”
James Leslie holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Columbia Southern University.
He has served as an executive board member for both the Napervile Profesional Firefighters IAFF Local 4302, and for Illinois Firefighter Peer Support.
Leslie is also a parishioner at Holy Angels Catholic Church, he is a husband and he is a father to three children.
