ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) — Dozens of female elected officials meet to help local women who are interested in getting into politics.

Congresswoman Cheri Bustos and State Representative Litesa Wallace along with several other local officials host Women Electing Women. The event connected women already involved in politics with women who may want to break in, but aren’t sure where to start.

Emily Hachmeister says she wanted to get involved after attending the Women’s March in Rockford. She feels the information she received at the event was priceless.

“Knowing our strengths as a group, as women together…the way we can cross borders and boundaries to find unifying aspects,” says Hachmeister.” “It’s just been really important to just empower us together and see our strengths as a group of women.”

She is interested in running for Commissioner for Sumner Park District in Pecatonica.
